Museum Operations Representative
The Aga Khan Museum (AKM) in Toronto, Canada offers visitors a window into worlds unknown or unfamiliar: the artistic, intellectual, and scientific heritage of Muslim civilizations across the centuries from the Iberian Peninsula to China. Its mission is to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the contribution that Muslim civilizations have made to world heritage. Through education, research, and collaboration, the Museum will inform and inspire audiences from all cultures by presenting art created in the Muslim world throughout the past fourteen centuries, along with current paths of artistic practice and cultural development.
Purpose of Position
Reporting to the Museum Operations Supervisor, the Museum Operations Representative will be responsible for servicing visitors to the Museum by proactively engaging with them and offering information and assistance. The incumbent will assist with the delivery of activities within the museum including welcoming, registration, ticketing, and overseeing visitor movement.
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate the provision of visitor activities within the museum across all departments
Efficiently and accurately process all tickets
Carry out institutional procedures for safe cash handling including distributing, checking
morning floats, authorizing refunds/exchanges, investigating till discrepancies and end of
day reconciliation
Communicate with a variety of visitors and internal stakeholders with diverse interests and
abilities, in person, via e-mail, or on the phone, to ensure a positive Museum experience
Serve as an advocate for the visitor and their needs while also ensuring the safety of the
museum and adherence to policies
Resolve visitor concerns and complaints promptly and to their satisfaction and escalate to
the supervisor or manager as and when required.
Maintain a well-informed, working knowledge of the exhibitions and services available at the
Museum
Support the Health & Safety procedures of the Museum by monitoring visitor numbers and
visitor flow, responding and reporting all accidents, incidents, hazards and defects as per
guidelines
Support in the direction of staff and volunteers during an evacuation ensuring the safety of
all present
Ensure all areas are kept clean, tidy and free of clutter and garbage
Ensure that all materials and resources are effectively and efficiently utilized to minimize waste and reduce costs
Oversee the floor in the absence of the Museum Operations Supervisor including coordinating the activities of staff and volunteers.
Qualifications & Experience
• Minimum College degree or diploma in administration or related field
Minimum of 3 years experience, working in a team-oriented, collaborative customer-facing environment
Excellent communications, interpersonal, analytical skills and problem solving experience
Exceptional customer service orientation
Experience in event delivery
Cash handling experience and/or experience of managing budgets
Strong computer skills, including POS and MS Excel. Knowledge of Tessitura will be required
Highly organized, accurate and detail-oriented
Flexibility to work evenings, holidays, and weekends
Expressed interest in the mandate of the Museum.
