Hello NJ friends & colleagues, I hope everyone is enjoying this spring weather and news of increased capacities! I wanted to reach out to ask about what types of scanners your orginization uses for NSCAN? We recently left Audience View and are still using the older Saveo models that we purchased for that system about 6 years ago. Since loading NSCAN, they have been a bit unstable and give me alot of application errors. We are in the market for scanner upgrades. The documentation says that both Saveo and Zebra are compatible. Do any of you have a scanner that you are happy with? Anything I should know while shopping models? Also, are any of you using the new Moblie Ticketing offered by Tess? Does it work well with the scanners that you are using? Thank you in advance for any insights that you can share. Have a great weekend, Cheryl
Hi Cheryl,
Mason Gross has four Zebra TC52 and two TC72. We purchased the TC72's because they will be traveling a lot to off-site venues on other campuses and will be in the handled by college students. So we really wanted the rugged version for that purpose. As for the TC52's, we bought those with the idea that they will be handled by college students, but part of me thinks we should have purchased the TC25. They differ very little in functionality from the TC52. If memory serves, the only difference I could see was that the TC25s have to be sent back to replace a lithium ion battery whereas we can change the battery on the TC52s/72s.
Be warned that peripheral hardware is model specific. Do you want a multi-port charging station? We can't just pop our six scanners into one 6-port charging station. We have one 6-port charging station for our four TC52s and another for the two TC72s. Do you want a contactless scanning stand or wall-mount holster? You need one for each model. The peripheral hardware usually costs the same but the space is paid for and wasted.
We are not using the mobile ticketing from Tessitura but would like to eventually so I'd love to hear what everyone else has to say about that!
Hope this helps.
Hi Jessica, Did you purchase the scanners directly through a Zebra representative? I have also read on some of the threads that people were allowed to test them out. Did you test one before purchasing?
They were purchased as part of our implementation but they were purchased through Tessitura. I do not remember that we tested them out. Mostly because we did not have scanners at all prior. We did get to take look at the scanners one of our consortium members already had though.
