Prioritizing Self-Care

Hello friends,

I wanted to share with you that after much consideration, I’ve decided to step away from my role as Director of Marketing & Communications at Hartford Stage. My final day with the company will be November 16.

It took several months of deliberation and consideration from every angle to come to this decision, but ultimately, I just need a break to protect myself. It's been too many years of going at full speed (and then some) so I'm eager to take a few months to rest, heal, and re-focus on my priorities. I don’t know what my next career move will be – I'm very open to exploring other options. All I know right now is that if we don’t take care of ourselves when we’re on the edge of burnout, our bodies will eventually force us to stop in a way beyond our control. I’m doing my best to get ahead of that.

I say that in a word of caution to this community in particular. I know so many of have shared experiences; we may have (especially recently) been invited into a lot of new rooms and given a lot of (very justified and long-deserved!) praise for our work, but eventually it forces us into a position where we’re spread too thin, not being compensated enough for our expertise, or not being able to create a live for ourselves outside of these non-profit roles that drain so much of our passion. That might, of course, not be your experience at all – so please disregard if you feel that’s not applicable to your situation. But if it is and you want to talk more, I invite the conversation. Let’s make sure we’re protecting each other and ourselves. <3

I've loved getting to be a part of this group and spending time with a handful of you on a 1-on-1 basis. Thank you for your wisdom, your love, your encouragement, your dedication. Y'all are the best.

Much, much, much love to you all,

  • Andrea,

I wholeheartedly echo the sentiments expressed by Carlos. You were my Tessitura Early Career mentor, and, of course, later, we became friends and colleagues working together on your TLCC Denver presentation and the DEAI committee. You've been such a light and a joy.

As you venture into the uncharted territories that lie ahead, I wish you nothing but the very best. May you find success in your endeavors, happiness in your pursuits, and love in the connections you forge.

    Time to re-calibrate.

With heartfelt admiration and enduring friendship,
    Corey
