We have a new POC Community Co-Chair. Welcome Carlos García León!

Hey, Community.

It’s finally Spring in the northern hemisphere, and I’m grateful for the warmer weather heading this way. I hope we’re all doing well.

Mercedes and I are happy to have a new co-chair joining us. Please welcome Carlos García León (he/they) of Chicago Shakespeare Theatre.

Carlos García León

Carlos is a queer, non-binary, Latine, Mexican-Statesian, and fundraiser. They were born in Atlixco, Puebla, Mexico, but recently moved to the stolen land of the Peoria, Potawatomi, Kickapoo, and Kaskaskia tribes, also known as Chicago, Illinois. While having an orchestral background, Carlos went on to work in opera with Cincinnati Opera, and currently, is the individual giving manager of Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Their work, both in the arts and through writing, is driven by a fight for cultural equity, decolonizing the arts, and social justice.

The three of us are excited about the future of this community, and we can’t wait to host our next virtual gathering with you all. Very soon, we will be inviting you all to our next chat as a way to get to know your co-chairs. This meeting is also an opportunity to voice what you want from this community. Be on the lookout for this invitation.

Before I go, here are a couple of Tessitura-related updates.
