"It's not the load that breaks you down. It's the way you carry it."

We're a year into a pandemic. And we're still dealing with all the things - a still rampant virus, social distancing, social unrest, and no way to unpack it all. As creatives and caregivers, problem solvers, and visionary leaders, women of color are constantly being asked for more even as the world shifts around us. The pandemic and the country's "racial awakening" have just amplified the "more." We're still putting out the fires, daily. So let's just take a moment of self-care and talk about what it means to "reevaluate" in the midst of our new normal.

Framing our discussion we'll ask the questions: In the midst of this sustained chaos, how have you reevaluated your priorities? Has reevaluation shifted your personal and professional practices? How? What does it even mean to prioritize when all the fires to be put out need equal attention?

In the spirit of our WOCA Community Gatherings, and our series, Thriving!: Community and Self Care for Womxn of Color, WOCA has created a virtual space where women of color can be still, be supported, and can just be. These gatherings are about leaning into community as we collectively work to navigate the debilitating physical, mental, and emotional fatigue we regularly experience as women of color, now overwhelmingly compounded by an upended world. In these gatherings, we hope to source some sustainable practices for our well-being, as well as, strategies for resilience.

A WORD

This space is open to WOCA members and all those that self-identify as women of color working in the arts. While we appreciate all authentic allies and accomplices, we ask that this gathering space remain exclusively for those that self-identify as women of color.

IN SERVICE TO WORKING MOMS + CAREGIVERS

We recognize that many are juggling work-from-home life, homeschooling, caring for elders, and putting out the fire of the day. In order to accommodate all caregivers, please feel comfortable in bringing your children to this community space. We know that you are carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.
