THANK YOU for this recommendation, . I just finished watching CRIP CAMP and have learned so much. What an amazing and important documentary. I hope everyone will take time to watch this!
I agree there is just so much that I don't know about the human condition. I have a largely invisible disability. And I live with a disabilities studies reacher. So, you might guess that I would know something about this history. And I don't. There is definitely a lot of history that we don't typically get to learn about from ALL underrepresented communities. For example, the part the Bay Area Black Panthers played in the Section 504 protests here in the states during the late 1970s. And so many more things...
Yes! I, too, had no idea about the Black Panthers involvement with the protests and loved learning about that. I was also unaware of Willowbrook and all of the horrors that took place there. I wanted to dig a little deeper and learn more about that and came across this article published a year ago in the NYTimes. Unfortunately, even though Willowbrook was shut down in the1980s, the residents were moved to smaller group homes where the abuse and neglect continues to this day.
Crip Camp was a really well done documentary. I now recommend you watch Murderball which was a 2005 documentary. It is more of an MTV/Sports type of documentary but it is also really well done. It appear to be available on Prime Video and Tubi.
I remember watching Murderball when it was released. That game is intense. And a fine documentary
