Data Analytics Virtual Tessitura Users Group (VTUG)

All,

As many of you may be aware, I'm interested in "lighting up data" to help cultural non-profits meet budget and deliver on mission.  In the New York Area, I am super lucky to have many opportunities to meet with Data Scientists, Analysts, Machine Learning Experts from many organizations. These interactions have been both encouraging, and have helped me learn a lot.  Most of the folks I meet are not from cultural non-profit organizations. Most are from large financial services, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, internet startup or academic organizations.

What I feel I'm missing, is consistent opportunities to meet with, learn from, and encourage other Cultural Non-Profit data leaders like each of you.

Over the past few years, I've been interested in more regularly participating in data analytics conversations with my Tessitura Colleagues.

With that in mind, I'd like to invite each you to a conversation about forming a Data Analytics Virtual Tessitura Users Group (VTUG) within our community.

To gauge interest, and maybe start a bit of planning, I'd like to invite each of you to join me for a formation meeting this coming week.

I've arranged a Go To Meeting conference bridge but, I'd like to know when folks could meet.  So, I've set up a doodle poll to find the most convenient moment for many of us.

Looking forward to a great conversation.

  • If you will get me an email address I can send you a calendar Appointment for Friday's meeting.  Could not find a way to reach you off list.

  • Hi All,

Based on last week's response we seem to have enough interest to get a virtual Analytics TUG going.

The next things we will need are:

    • A Name a few words that Names our group in a descriptive way.
    • An Acronym a few characters used for URL links, hashtags, email addresses...  It is helpful if this is unique-ish so that we can use the same things on a variety of platforms.
    • A Short Description used to describe what we are about as a group.

The Name and Acronym will be hard for us to change once set.  The Short description is just useful for us to have, however it is fairly easy to change.

So, I'm inviting all interested parties, wordsmiths, folks with good ideas to make suggestions.

To gather these ideas I've posted a second google form:

    https://goo.gl/forms/52J70ShKNHwurEx63

You may add as many ideas as you think appropriate on separate forms.

As this is on the critical path for a number of other items I'll close suggestions on Wednesday 9/19/2018 at 12:00noon EDT.

  • Again thanks to all who have participated in the formation meetings for the Analytics Virtual TUG.

Here are some results from our meetings questionnaire.  In general, we had 35 individual participants from 29 organizations.

    Participants by Orginization

The next question is how often we should meet.  The Median was 8 weeks with a Standard Deviation or about 1 month(4.096 weeks).

Summary of suggestions about distribution of meetings

I'm going to use some data-informed intuition here, and suggest that we try to meet monthly with agendas that switch every other month.

    For example:

    • The even number months we can focus on conversations and community development.
    • Where the odd-numbered months we could focus on presentations and planned content.

If this turns out to be too active to sustain. We can drop the frequency back to every 6, 8, or even 12-13 weeks.

The Next question we can answer from the data is where are we around the world.  Given the times that these formation meetings were held, it turns out that most of us were from the USA.  However, we had a few hearty folks from the UK and South Pacific.  The easiest way to see this is the Time Zones we reported.

    Participant Time Zones

I've started to create a cluster analysis of the responses from participants.  It turns out that we don't have quite enough data to have meaningful responses.

The next thing will be to build a meeting time analysis taking into account the time zones of the participants to see when the best times to meet will be.

More to follow.  Looking forward to seeing ideas from folks about names for our group.

  • Great information and feedback, Tom! Looking forward to next steps!

  • Input on Names would be helpful so we can get a group here on TessituraNetwork.com going.

I'm also interested in hearing off of the list from folks who might be interested in helping co-lead.  I can share a bit about what would be involved.

  • Hi All,

Sorry to have been offline for a few weeks.  Some changes going on with my work...

I've also been looking for a technical solution for doing an open space style discussion online.  We think we found a tool that might work.

We are going to conduct a quick test of the tool on Friday 10/19 at 2:00pm EDT. The session will last 30 minutes.  I would love to have a few folks join us just to see how the tool works.

This will not specifically be an analytic discussion.  Just an opportunity to experiment with an online tool we might use as out "meeting place" of the Virtual TUG.

You can join the Analytics Virtual Tessitura User Group (the A-TUG) on QiQoChat using the following URL:

    http://atug.qiqochat.com/invitation/jbWwu/skcGBXBPNfIYEGKrMVuVONfQx

And then RSVP to our meeting on 10/19 at 2:00pm using this URL:

Looking forward to having a few people join.

  • Thanks to those who were able to join our brief gathering yesterday.

Here is a description of the QiQoChat tool we are investigating:

    https://qiqochat.wordpress.com/all-tools-on-qiqochat/

We are working with the creator of this tool Lucas Cioffi. He is both the developer of QiQoChat and a Leader in the online OpenSpace Community.  He has been supper helpful, making a few minor changes to the way the system works to support the way we would work together.  And he has generously offered to sponsor a first meeting on the platform.

We don’t yet have a date or theme for our first online Tessitura analytical open space.  However, I am now comfortable that this will happen at least as a one time event.

If you are intrested, you are invited to take a moment to sign up for the Analytics Virtual Tessitura User Group (the A-TUG) on QiQoChat.
