In Person Opportunity: Tessitura & Web Functionality Collaboration with Situation

Good afternoon all -

I'm passing along an opportunity from some friends of mine at one of our "in network" vendors, Situation. They're hoping to facilitate some of the same type of collaborative connections we do within this local community, so I'm glad to post it here.

Note that while the primary brain trust fun may tilt solidly into developer skills sets and API hijinks, there will certainly also be vibes of UX, UI, and 'we want our arts website to do X' for those a little more programmer-adjacent (aka: I'll be there, and having web functionality conversation outside of writing API calls).

The theme of the event is "Learning through Collaboration and Connection" and is presented by Situation at our NYC office. This is an all-day, in-person event for developers in the Tessitura community. Whether you are an engineer working with the Tessitura API or are a Tessitura database SQL expert, this event will level-up your Tessitura platform wrangling skills. The day will feature presentations and workshops facilitated by fellow developers, plus small group breakout sessions where developers can have in-depth discussions, get assistance with active projects and contribute to documentation and other knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Virtual Viewing Pass option:

A Virtual Viewing Pass will include live access to all general sessions and 48 concurrent breakout sessions, as well as recordings of those sessions.
Registration for the Virtual Viewing Pass is $575 through last call on 6 August.
On demand access to conference content after the conference is $625.

CALL FOR PRESENTERS

The Call for Presenters for TLCC Washington, D.C. is officially open!

All are welcome to submit presentation proposals, no matter your experience with Tessitura. Presenters will receive a 25% discount on the conference registration fee, and support will be available to help you prepare your presentation. Session proposals are due by Wednesday, 10 April. Learn more and submit your ideas.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Tessitura is offering 10 scholarships to TLCC in Washington, D.C., including seven Diversity Scholarships and three Emerging Leaders Scholarships.

Scholars will be awarded complimentary conference registration. This includes:

All sessions
All networking events
All conference meals and refreshment breaks (except Tuesday evening, which is a build-your-own networking night)
Access to conference materials and presentations

Scholars will be responsible for their own travel expenses and lodging.

Please review the eligibility requirements to learn which scholarship may be the right fit for you. If you do not qualify for a scholarship, we encourage you to forward this information to anyone at your organization who does!

All applications and letters of recommendation must be received by April 17, 2024. The Scholarship Committee will notify all candidates about its decision by May 10, 2024.

quick v16 timeline question

I've been asked to get a sense of "who's doing what" in our area.

Theater Camp Movie Night!

Break out the popcorn and the jazz hands --- it's an NYC Tessitura Community movie night!

We're taking over an MTC rehearsal studio to screen this summer's artsy indie hit, Theater Camp, on Wed, October 25 at 6:30pm EST. Will the theater kids save their special camp(y) community from the invading investment bankers? Help yourself to some popcorn, soft drinks, and simple snacks (or BYOB!) and settle in to watch the show with our special community.

The Manhattan Theatre Club Studios are at 311 West 43rd Street, and Studio Two is on the 8th floor. Movie starts at 6:30, but arrivals are welcome anytime after 6pm. The film is 92 minutes long.

Neither jazz hands nor personal theater kid background required. Anyone who is an employee at a Tessitura-based organization is welcome, but everyone must register individually through the website.

V16 Conversation Space: Quarterly, Come-As-You-Are Virtual Meet Ups - Sept 27, 12pm

Let's talk upgrade. Tessitura v16 introduces client and web functionality years in the making, demanding a planning and adoption process that extends well beyond a few dedicated database wizards in a server room. So, step into a digital space buzzing at a human frequency and compare notes with like-minded colleagues across the greater New York Tessitura Community about your planning, progress, and evolving business practices. Come swap information about real world disruptions, find implementation inspiration, and build your peer network.

We will open each 50-minute session with a quick connection about adoption progress and timing, then create breakout rooms based on participant interest. Notable takeaways will be posted to the Community group page, but the conversations will not be recorded.

This recurring series is intended to be an open gathering space for power users of all types and experience levels—whether you have questions to ask or tips to share, if you're in the weeds of it, you're welcome. This meet up is on September 27 at 12:00pm. Additional quarterly meetings will be rolled out soon.

It's time to plan a new year of trainings, professional development, case study sharing, and networking for the Greater NYC Tessitura Community. If you would like to volunteer to help create these events, please complete this sign up form.

The commitment includes:

- Participating in the 90 minute brainstorm planning session on Tues, Sept 19, at 6:00pm at New 42 Studios (optional)
- Supporting the content planning for at least one event

Because the brainstorm session on Sept 19th is an active participation event, space is limited. NYC Tessitura Community Group Papering Offers

"Live in the culture" is a catch phrase across the Tessitura community, and the greater NYC metro area has over 40 arts organizations creating unparalleled performance and exhibit opportunities. We encourage our members to share invitations for complimentary or staff-priced tickets through this messaging board.

Our organizations have the power to transform lives through experiences. Those experiences often start online, researching an event or reserving a ticket: are your digital platforms as accessible as your art?

Accessibility should be considered at the outset of a project and on an ongoing basis as part of business as usual. To provide equitable access for all of your audience, design, code, and content must all be accessible. Learn some important basic tenets of web accessibility from Caspian Turner (Accessible by Design), including an overview on what digital accessibility means, how assistive technology removes barriers, and web content guidelines and legislation. Caspian will also highlight arts-specific accessibility barriers, and thoughts about how to start or accelerate your organization's development towards an equitable, enjoyable and easy online experience for everybody.

This webinar is suitable for anyone engaged with digital content creation, online platform management, or general advocacy for how your non-profit invests in web accessibility. New Hire Training

Hello all,

We do not have a training department and rely on tenured staff to provide training. This process requires change and improvement; we hope to learn from others.

How do other organizations train new hires on how to use Tessitura?

In the past, we investigated some online tools that provide self-paced training. These tools save staff time and allow new hires to review information, take quizzes, and familiarize themselves with the processes specific to their expertise.

Training is always a process for us. We usually start with the video training provided by Tessitura Network in their learning resources...different positions need to watch different videos. I have found that, though they may not remember everything from watching the training videos, it creates a foundation so when they do job-specific training, things start to seem familiar.

Then, the new employee will either train with a member of their department familiar with the procedures or with me (The Tessitura Operations Manager) going through the aspects of their job and specifics that may not have been in the training. They are given documentation for the procedures so that they can reference them as they first start doing tasks.

After that, there is a short period of supervised work where someone is sitting over their shoulder to answer questions or point out errors, but once the new employee seems to have a basic grasp on things they are considered trained (though the ability to ask questions is always there).

Finally we have occasional refresher trainings. This allows new staff to learn new skills (that may not have been needed for their position yet) and existing staff who may do something infrequently remind themselves of how the system works. I take the approach that no knowledge is out-of-bounds. If your position has never had to build a list but you want to learn how that works, great! You may not immediately get access to other control groups etc. but if you want to expand your abilities in Tessitura, I will provide the opportunity to learn.

Season Announcement: New York City Tessitura Community

After a bit of a quiet fall, we are so excited to announce our Winter/Spring Season. Through a combination of social outings and virtual activities, we hope to see both new and familiar faces over the next few months.

We are kicking off the season with a Neighborhood Welcoming at Wollman Rink NYC.

March 2, 2023 at all 6:00pm

Re-Meet Your NYC Tessitura Community, hosted by Wollman Rink NYC

Rink entry and skates will be provided, and snacks and hot chocolate will be available for purchase at the concessions. Neither Tessitura experience nor skating prowess required--just an interest in talking arts admin and CRM, and a tolerance for "Tessitura on Ice" and other similar puns. This is primarily an outdoor event, and has a Rain Date of March 3.
