SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ & Allies Meeting - Authentic Role Model Speaker
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Authentic Role Model Speaker \n VIEW AGENDA \n In an effort to include more diverse voices and stories, while also acknowledging the burden and burnout that often occurs for BIPOC members, we are also utilizing resources that already exist. HERE is a great list of LGBTQ+ themed Ted Talks, many of which are BIPOC speakers. During our meeting we'll watch one together and discuss as a group. Past Ted Talks watched in the group include: Fahad Saeed | The importance of using inclusive language . and Nita Mosby Tyler | Want a more just world? Be an unlikely ally . \n We are always looking for live speakers to join during a meeting. If you have a role model recommendation, contact a member of the Planning Committee (contact info below). Maybe it's you! The overall theme for speakers is to share their experience or tell a story of living and working authentically out. \n This Month's Ted Talk: The story of Marvel's first queer Latina superhero with Gabby Rivera \n ABOUT: With Marvel's "America Chavez," Gabby Rivera wrote a new kind of superhero -- one who can punch portals into other dimensions while also embracing her gentle, goofy, soft side. In a funny, personal talk, Rivera shares how her own childhood as a queer Puerto Rican in the Bronx informed this new narrative -- and shows images from the comic book that reveal what happens when a superhero embraces her humanity. As she says: "That myth of having to go it alone and be tough is not serving us." \n \n Register now for the next virtual meeting of the LGBTQ+ & Allies Tessitura Community Group! \n Reminder that the Tessitura LGBTQ+ & Allies community group is a safe space to be yourself, no matter where you are in your personal path to living authentic. We are here to support each other and everyone is welcome! \n \n GO TO MEETING INFO: \n Join this meeting from your computer, tablet or smartphone. https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/434895149 \n You can also dial in using your phone.
